About Rep. Anika Omphroy
Anika Omphroy was born in Brooklyn, New York to Caribbean parents. She has called Broward County home since childhood. She went to Castle Hill Elementary School before attending Seminole Middle and Nova High. She graduated from Nova Southeastern University.
Community service is near and dear to Anika’s heart. As a 7th grader she organized her first call to action it gained media attention and created change at her middle school. At 26 she was appointed to the Human Rights Board of Broward County (2005-2009). She serves as Vice Chair of City of Lauderdale Lakes Economic Development Board (Board Member 2013-Present). Appointed in 2017 to the Civil Services Board of the City of Lauderdale Lakes.
In spring of 2010 she was asked to create a talk show. She executive produced, cast and co-hosted “The Mix” it launched in the fall of 2010 on TeleAmerica Broadcasting Network. The show ran for two seasons and was the most watched show on the station.
In 2016 she was the Broward lead for the Clinton for President Campaign to the Caribbean American community. As lead, she organized the now famous Lauderhill Mall stop by former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton which was called the “best grassroots move” the Clinton campaign made in South Florida by news media outlets. This move significantly upped voter turnout in central Broward, while also giving Caribbean elected officials local and national press coverage. She also organized the business round table talks for Clinton surrogate US Congresswoman Stacey Plaskett. She was also chosen to represent the Caribbean American voters by the Clinton campaign for a CBS4 interview. Understanding the opportunity she chose to shoot at Caribbean restaurants to add visual depth to her message and to give these businesses added exposure.
Anika gives back by using her PR skills to aid many organizations and worthy causes throughout South Florida. Anika believes that a politician has three roles in a community: servant, voice, and advocate. Elected Area 9 (Lauderhill/Lauderdale Lakes) Leader for the Broward Democratic Party (2017-Present). Anika was honored as one of the 100 Most Outstanding Women of Broward County 2017. She’s a micro business consultant and inventor.
